Albert Harrison Small

Albert Harrison Small is the President of Southern Engineering Corporation. He has developed apartment communities and single-family homes in the Washington, D.C. area, Richmond, Norfolk, Newport News and Baltimore.  

He serves on numerous civic and cultural boards, including the Aspen Institute, the National Gallery of Art, the National Symphony Orchestra, the National Archives Foundation, the National Trust for the Humanities, the University of Virginia Foundation, the Folger Shakespeare Library, and the Tudor Place Foundation. Mr. Small is also a Member of the James Madison Council of the Library of Congress, the Life Guard of Mount Vernon, the Urban Land Institute, the National Association of Home Builders, and the Chief Executives Organization.

Mr. Small graduated from the University of Virginia School of Engineering and attended the George Washington University Law School and the American University Graduate School of Business. He has been a rare book and manuscript collector for over 50 years, collecting in many fields, especially ones related to the Declaration of Independence and Washington, D.C. The Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library at the University of Virginia was dedicated in 2004. The Albert H. Small Center for National Capital Area Studies The George Washington University will open in 2015.
